Who am I and What am I doing here?

Welcome to my blog! It all started with me writing about life in Istanbul. It helped me to make sense of the place, give my family something to read and I thought I could share my experiences with the world and find others who were going through the same thing. Expat life ain’t easy. That was 2013. Fast forward to 2016. I am living in my fourth city in almost as many years. Each one has taught me something about the world and myself. This I hope to share with you. That and the parts of the world I love. I want this to be more than just writing about my travel experiences. I am a woman who has chosen to live my life the way I want and I want to write about that too.

I also like taking photos on my Canon so there will be photography too.

Who am I?

I’m a 29 year old with a constant case of itchy feet. One of my best friends hit the nail on the head when she described me as the plastic bag floating in the wind, the one that made a cameo in American Beauty (I’m famous)! Stuck in limbo, working jobs that I hated, trying a bit of this and a bit of that (including attempting to be a chef in one of those pretentious independent cafe cum restaurants), an opportunity arose and I took it. Thankful for an escape route out of my own personal cycle of mediocrity.  I had always considered teaching English overseas and it just so happened that a shortfall of English teachers in Turkey meant a week after my interview I was all aboard Turkish Airlines, eating my complementary Turkish Delight wondering what on earth I’d let myself in for.

Heres to floating in the wind…  And not getting stuck in a tree….

  2. Dear one foot in Europe,

My name is Joyce and I work for ExpatFinder.com.
ExpatFinder.com is a free one stop website for people preparing to move or working and living overseas. We provide a myriad of services for expatriates and we have over 2,000 articles to help and support the people moving around the world and we are now creating an interview section to help the expats with real life experiences!
We quite enjoy your blog about living in Turkey, it is very interesting and informative. Would it be possible to interview you to further share some of your tips and feature some of your first hand experience as an Expat and your interview will be published on our Expat Interview section as a guide for our expat readers. The questions are mainly about the day to day lifestyle of an expat. If it would be possible, could you also send some photographs that we can use?
Of course, if you accept, we can add a link to your blog or some of your website.
The questions are enclosed, feel free to respond freely. You can return the doc with your answers if you accept this invitation.
Thanks in advance and do let me know if you prefer other means to conduct this interview and we would be happy to accommodate your terms.

    Best regards,
    Joyce
